Introduction

ImportDocs is a powerful tool available to administrators and designers for importing documents and their metadata from external sources to Avanteam applications.

Main use cases​

The tool addresses several critical needs:

  • Data migration: Load thousands of historical documents when deploying a new solution.
  • Interfacing: Import data from other tools (LAD/RAD, ERP, etc.).
  • Bulk updates: Import new versions or update fields on existing documents.

Supported data sources​

ImportDocs can read a wide variety of formats:

  • Flat files: CSV, XLS and XLSX (Excel).
  • Scanning tools (LAD/RAD): XML files from Iris Powerscan or ReadSoft.
  • Third-party systems: Data from HCL Domino applications (via the dedicated extension).

Operating modes​

You can use the tool in three different modes:

  1. Manual Mode: Using the graphical interface (ImportDocs.exe) to configure and launch a one-time import.
  2. Watch Mode: The tool monitors a specific directory and automatically imports any new file that is dropped.
  3. Automated Mode:
    • Either via the console version (ImportDocsConsole.exe) called by an external scheduler.
    • Or via a scheduled agent configured in Process Studio and executed by the Avanteam Scheduler service.

Tool location​

The executable is located by default in the following directory of your Avanteam installation: ./PStudio.Administration/ImportDocs.exe

Note

The tool uses the solution's .NET runtime engine and requires direct access to the application database or to the Avanteam API depending on the configuration.
